I’m not a bit important;
I know that much is true.
There aren’t that many people
Who care much what I do.

I’m not, nor have I ever been,
President of anything.
I cannot trace my lineage
Back as far as any king.

I do not know celebrity.
I’ve never been on the TV.
I’m sadly not consulted on
My views by our local MP.

I think even my children
Consider me a bore.

So why this deep conviction
Right to my very core
That gorgeous robin that I see
Singing up in yonder tree
Sings his heart out
Just for me?
