Best books have covers all tattered and torn.
(Not that their looks ever mattered, for scorn!)
The words and the stories hidden inside
Can be a warm hug,
Or a white-knuckle ride.
The sign of a good book – loved through the years?
Wrinkles,
And bent spines,
Smudged pages,
Dog-ears.
When you read a good book, isn’t it true
The words come alive – live on inside you?
I hope that, one day, when my story ends
I’m like an old book: well-loved by my friends,
A tatty old tome on oft-visited shelves.
Our books should look lived-in,
Just like ourselves.
Covered
We know not to do it: judging a book
By how attractive its cover might look.
Lovely comparison and so true! 😊
