We don’t agree much,
You and I.
When did we last see eye to eye?
We both of us know we are right –
That black is black and white is white.

And I could make the longest list
Of things on which we both insist
That we alone are seeing clear.

The list grows longer every year.

And yet…

Here is regret.

A small seed set
Amid the anger, out of sight
Buried in this bitter fight.

Yes, I regret the time we’ve lost
And tally up too high a cost.

Can we stop?
Halt the hate?
Is there time? Is it too late
To find a piece of common ground
Where we can stand, where peace is found?

We’re humans both. Yes. You and me.
Let’s hold on to humanity.

It’s time to choose what matters more:
Future hope? or keeping score?
