I didn’t bang my boot enough.
A spider’s grip is super tough;
A spider’s grip is super strong.
I thought I’d checked,
but…
…I was wrong.
I walked and wandered, mile on mile
Cross-country lane, woods, ragged stile
‘Til I returned, all weary like,
Removed my boot, after my hike,
And jumped a mile into the air,
A massive spider ran from there.
She’d been curled up by toe or heel.
I can’t pretend I didn’t squeal
I’m ‘shamed to say, I shrieked out loud
(A fact of which I can’t be proud).
I scooped her up and took her to
A new home, with a better view
Scuttled in, she, unaffected.
I wonder if she too reflected:
Of two of us, it’s safe to say,
Twas her that had the rougher day.
