Please don’t detest a
climate protester,
they’re trying to save us from harm.
We’re hurtling faster
straight into disaster,
they’re quite right to sound the alarm.
The science is clear now,
the future is here now,
already the children are dying.
The time’s running out,
it’s past time to shout,
yet Shell and BP are still lying.
There isn’t a choice now,
you must raise your voice now,
we’re here in the last chance saloon.
The sea level’s rising,
there’s no more disguising,
we’re long past the need to ‘act soon’.
There’s no room for doubt,
flood, famine and drought
are already impacting us all.
The forecast is dire,
rampaging wildfire,
our civilisation may fall.
Inaction’s condoned,
the MPs are owned
by BP, and Exon & Shell.
Journos join in,
confusion and spin –
for Big Oil owns papers as well.
Their profits still boom
while prophets of doom
are labelled as merely misguided.
Big Oil wants us cross;
they don’t give a toss –
we’re easier led when divided.
And yet, there are answers –
we’re not out of chances –
there’s solar and tidal and wind.
Though, here is the glitch,
for they won’t get rich –
and so all that logic gets binned.
They’d rather that we
were starving, you see,
than face any drop in their takings.
And so we’re condemned
to always depend
on energy fossils are making.
So, please don’t detest a
climate protester,
so bravely they risk time in jail.
Save your disdain
for purveyors of pain –
for who gains if the protestors fail?
